Why/How did you start playing bouzouki?

Here is my Story...

My first memory of a bouzouki was on my second trip to Greece. I must have been six or seven years old. All I can remember was looking at the bouzouki (while someone was playing it live at a restaurant) and thinking that the bowl of the instrument looked kinda like a watermelon. I guess it was love at first sight...xaxaxa.

As a child I never enjoyed listening to anything besides old school Greek music. My father and I spent long car rides to hockey practice playing Kazantzidis, Poulopoulos, and even some beautiful Nissiotika. Basically old school Greek music was all I would listen to. I would always fight with my younger sister when she wanted to put on "the American" stations...xaxaxa...and she always complained that the old ladies singing the Nissiotika sounded like they had something stuck in their throat lol --> P.S. it is ok now because I successfully brain washed her into loving all Greek music

Some time later during my senior year in high school one of my friends who was obsessed with guitar convinced me to start playing an instrument. I knew the only instrument I wanted to learn was bouzouki. My sister had a wind-up mini bouzouki from Greece that played "Zorba the Greek" and I loved it. I told him that my older sister always wanted to play bouzouki but never did because they were so expensive. So of course I set my eyes on getting a bouzouki and that was that...I had to find a way to get an instrument. So eventually this idea became an obsession. I would come home everyday from school and spend hours searching bouzoukia, the history, and how to play. I remember practicing picking on a piece of string (yes, that is how desperate and clueless I was lol)...so after begging my parents for a bouzouki I got the "ebay" $350 "special" which I still have today...it was a Christmas gift that arrived in the mail near Thanksgiving...I asked them if I could open it to make sure it was not broken...Of course I had to make sure it played...I remember coming home from school everyday and taking it out of the box to play...xaxaxa!!!

Hello everyone.

I just bought a new bouzouki from Broufas and the quality, sound and attention to detail is phenomenal.

He took the time to listen to my needs and used top of the line material (unlike all the others that feed us a nice story) and put a great package together.

He delivered the sound that I was looking for, not too high and not too low and quick to deliver all that sound out.

My bouzouki is the second one, the one with the harp.
